Its objective: to install a new-generation radiosurgery system, the ZAP-X, in the west wing of a listed building. This innovative device, designed to treat certain brain pathologies without invasive surgery, required work of rare complexity, at the crossroads of cutting-edge engineering and heritage preservation.  &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-1acc633c3e153cb4445246b5309a2753\" style=\"color:#1b4090\"><strong>An architectural challenge in the heart of a historic building<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:12px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/www.radiochirurgiezapx-lariboisiere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/COM_239008_BD.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16527\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.radiochirurgiezapx-lariboisiere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/COM_239008_BD.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.radiochirurgiezapx-lariboisiere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/COM_239008_BD-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.radiochirurgiezapx-lariboisiere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/COM_239008_BD-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Integrating a 27-ton device into a building whose fa\u00e7ade dates back to 1854 is a considerable architectural challenge! The space allotted to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiochirurgiezapx-lariboisiere.com\/en\/?p=18012\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.radiochirurgiezapx-lariboisiere.com\/zapx-aphp\">ZAP-X<\/a>, <strong>limited to 100 m\u00b2<\/strong>, required completely customized adaptations, while always respecting the restrictions linked to the preservation of the site&#8217;s heritage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of the most spectacular interventions include :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Partial demolition of a listed facade, followed by identical <strong>stone-by-stone<\/strong> reconstruction.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The creation of specific foundations 21 metres deep to support the weight of the machine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deconstruction of a metre-thick vaulted ceiling forming the first floor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And finally, the construction of a <strong>reinforced concrete pit<\/strong> to house the equipment while guaranteeing the building&#8217;s stability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The work, carried out <strong>without disrupting the<\/strong> site&#8217;s <strong>medical activities<\/strong>, required rare skills in engineering, masonry and heritage conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-0e63755e2e6648adb905f49fc454aebc\" style=\"color:#1b4090\"><strong>Underground structure reinforcement: 30 days of absolute precision<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.radiochirurgiezapx-lariboisiere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/COM_231227_BD.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16529\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.radiochirurgiezapx-lariboisiere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/COM_231227_BD.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.radiochirurgiezapx-lariboisiere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/COM_231227_BD-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.radiochirurgiezapx-lariboisiere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/COM_231227_BD-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the first challenges of this major project was to consolidate the structure beneath the floor. A one-meter-deep reinforced concrete pit was dug and poured, designed to bear the weight of the ZAP-X while guaranteeing the <strong>safety of the entire building<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During this phase, wooden arches were installed to support the structure while the pit was being created. In just one month, this essential stage of the project was successfully completed, without disrupting the care provided at the facility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-80cf1a82cbba8663454e1ae7002ec5f2\" style=\"color:#1b4090\"><strong>The opening and consolidation of the fa\u00e7ade: 3 weeks under close surveillance<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Transporting a device as bulky as the ZAP-X is no easy task, especially when it has to cross a listed facade! Part of the fa\u00e7ade had to be opened under the close supervision of a <strong>specialist in historical monuments<\/strong>. The latter ensured both architectural conservation and the reversibility of the intervention.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the breach had been made, <strong>structural consolidations <\/strong>were immediately put in place to preserve the integrity of the building. For three days, an impressive crane operation was carried out by the teams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The equipment was raised above the extended fa\u00e7ade, then inserted with meticulous precision into the building&#8217;s west wing. Every action was calibrated and orchestrated thanks to <strong>seamless collaboration<\/strong> between the various players: site engineers, crane operators, masons, curators and many others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-55bdb6188d4019508ddfd2decb187045\" style=\"color:#1b4090\"><strong>Interdisciplinary coordination to meet the challenge<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This project would not have been possible without an exceptional level of mobilization. <strong>Some ten different trades<\/strong> took turns: construction engineers, masons, crane operators, heritage conservation specialists and other building trades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They all worked together to ensure that the installation of high-tech equipment could coexist with the constraints of a historic building, while maintaining current medical activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project was also a real <strong>organizational feat<\/strong>. Despite the complexity of the operations, the whole project was carried out at a sustained pace and to tight deadlines. The reinforcement of the basement structure was completed in one month, the opening and consolidation of the fa\u00e7ade in three weeks, and the craning operation in three days!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The entire project was completed for a total budget of <strong>6.22 million euros.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ZAP-X room is due to open shortly.
